IALA "Paulo Freire"
Carretera vieja, Puente Páez, municipio Alberto Arvelo Tornealba, Barinas, Venezuela

(Original: Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra)

This sculpture was created in the IALA Paulo Freire. A total of 60 different farmers take agricultural studies there for five years. A third of the farmers come from the movement of Movimento Sem Terra (Farmers without Land, MST).
The piece depicts a farmer envolved in a protest action. It wasn't at all easy to attain the metal parts for the sculpture. We toured approximately seven workshops in a rattling van in order to obtain the necessary scrap metal. In addition, the welding process was often interrupted by power cuts.
